The marijuana industry is expected to be worth $77 billion in the United States by 2022, and roughly $8.2 billion dollars in Canada within the next few years. Besides its popularity as a recreational drug, it’s being used in the treatment of chronic pain, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, other neurological conditions, and much more.
In short, it’s a booming business spanning several industries.
Kevin Clancy is an entrepreneur, long-time cannabis grower, and founder of Remedy. He saw an opportunity to digitize his business and simplify the sales and purchasing process for growers, dispensaries, and consumers.
You see, in order to experience the true benefits of marijuana, a user must understand its medicinal properties. This is because there are hundreds of strains, each of which has their own physical response and recommended uses. Unfortunately, the internet is brimming with misinformation and media spin making it very difficult for interested buyers to understand the best product for their needs and ultimately have a positive experience with marijuana.
Kevin knew a digital solution could help simplify and clarify the space. His chosen partner to bring this idea to life? Akawe Technologies.
SEE IN LIVE ACTIONWith so many products, benefits, and recommended uses, the challenge was in building an app that paired a knowledge base covering the nuances of hundreds of products with an algorithm that can make product recommendations based on a customer’s desired outcome (i.e. better sleep, relaxation, increased energy, etc.).
In addition, the app needed to connect users with dispensaries, and dispensaries with producers. We were looking to build a win-win-win situation.
In addition to the usual requirements – clear UI, good UX, modern design, straightforward navigation, and so on – the Remedy site and app needed:
Another challenge faced: the client had a limited monthly budget; it wouldn’t be financially feasible to build the entire app within 3 months, so we needed to find a solution wherein we could spread out the total development investment over a longer period of time.
Akawe prides itself on our ability to design and develop smart, strategic web apps, and we’ve assembled a talented and experienced team to get it right the first time. At every stage of the project, we’ve got you covered.
For Remedy, we’re utilizing a wide variety of platforms:
Additionally, we’ve constructed the Super Admin and company portals using PHP and a Laravel framework, and the web stores in Javascript with a Vue.js framework.
Akawe is proficient in not just one or two popular platforms, but many, so you can rest easy knowing you’re getting the best one for your particular needs and not just the one the designer knows how to use.
We also helped out by developing a long and slow project timeline that enabled Kevin Clancy to develop use cases – and procure the necessary funds – as we worked. He paid only when the budget was there and Akawe was actively working on his behalf.
Hire a full-time developer and that option disappears. Your employees get paid whether they’re moving forward or not. Tight timeline? Relaxed timeline? We can find a solution that leaves everyone happy.
